Middle East attacks must cease

Tánaiste Micheál Martin has expressed deep concern over the recent bombing attacks carried out by Israel on Tehran, emphasizing the urgent need for an end to the escalating hostilities between the two nations.

Following Iran’s missile attack on Israel earlier this month, Israel retaliated by targeting military sites in Iran, further fueling the conflict between the two heavily armed adversaries.

Speaking from Cork, Mr. Martin called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon, as well as the release of hostages and increased humanitarian aid to the affected regions.

He condemned the violent actions in northern Gaza, echoing the sentiments of a UN official who described the situation as a war atrocity and a crime against humanity.

The World Health Organization reported injuries and detentions of health workers in a besieged northern Gaza hospital, highlighting the urgent need for accountability and international intervention to address the ongoing crisis.

Mr. Martin stressed that all parties involved, including Israel, Hezbollah, Hamas, and Iran, must prioritize the well-being of civilians and work towards lasting peace in the region.
