Matawalle’s survival in cabinet reshuffle: A close call

President Bola Tinubu recently made headlines when he decided to dismiss five ministers from his cabinet while retaining Bello Matawalle, the Minister of State for Defence, despite allegations of being involved in sponsoring banditry. The decision to remove the ministers was based on public perception and their performance. Some were dismissed due to underperformance, while others lost their positions due to concerns over their conduct and political relevance.

Reasons behind the Sacking

Political sources revealed that the removal of certain ministers was also influenced by their lack of political value in their respective states. President Tinubu aimed to avoid political unrest in specific regions due to the reshuffle. It was noted that some ministers were not effective, while others had limited support from the political class.

Bio-Ibrahim and Political Manipulations

The former Minister of Youth Development, Jamila Bio-Ibrahim, was reportedly a placeholder for Ayodele Olawande, chosen by Seyi Tinubu. Bio-Ibrahim fell victim to political manipulations as she lacked political empowerment and support.

Controversial Ministers

Uju-Ken Ohanenye, the former Minister of Women Affairs, faced dismissal due to her dramatic conduct and aggressive moves. Doris Azoka-Anite, the ex-Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment, was accused of disconnecting from her ministry. Lola Ade-John, the former Minister of Tourism, was allegedly pressured by the Lagos power bloc for not being a politician.
