Is it true that Donald Trump intends to eliminate the Affordable Care Act? | 2024 US Election News

By

US Vice President Kamala Harris claimed in a campaign ad on September 27, 2024, that former President Donald Trump aims to eliminate the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare. The ad features Dr. Cesar Quintana stating how the ACA helps families access crucial healthcare, contrasting it with Trump’s desire to repeal and replace the law.

While Trump did express opposition to the ACA during his 2016 campaign and presidency, his stance has been ambiguous. He supported repeal efforts that ultimately failed and made changes to the law during his time in office. In his 2024 campaign, Trump has mentioned both replacing and improving the ACA without a clear plan outlined.

Despite Trump’s mixed messages, the Harris campaign asserts his intent to end the ACA based on alignment with Project 2025 proposals. However, Trump has distanced himself from this document, which suggests changes to the ACA but not its complete termination. Therefore, the claim that Trump wants to take away the ACA is deemed Half True.
