Hurricane Helene: Over 90 dead in NC, 21 missing

Hurricane Helene wreaked havoc in North Carolina, leaving 98 people dead and 21 individuals still missing. Most of the fatalities occurred in Buncombe County, with a total of 42 deaths reported. Governor Roy Cooper expressed gratitude to the task force and law enforcement for their search efforts to locate the missing individuals.

The devastation caused by the storm led to historic rain and damage in the region, prompting North Carolinians to come together in solidarity. Search and rescue teams have been conducting wide area searches to locate missing persons, with hundreds of responders involved in the efforts.

The aftermath of Hurricane Helene has prompted a relief package allocation of $273 million for immediate needs and assistance to displaced residents. The state is also addressing the impact on public-school nutrition employees and election administration in the coming weeks.
