The Rise of Compressed Natural Gas in Nigeria: A Cost-Effective Alternative Fuel

The Chief Executive Officer of AHA Strategies, Mr. Ademola Adigun, sheds light on the growing popularity of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) as a revolutionary alternative to traditional fuels in Nigeria.

Adigun explains that the primary driver behind the shift towards CNG is its cost-effectiveness. With CNG being significantly cheaper than petrol, it has become a preferred choice for many due to economic reasons rather than environmental benefits.

While CNG serves as an alternative fuel in urban centers like Lagos, Abuja, and Ibadan, its widespread adoption faces challenges such as infrastructure and conversion costs. Despite these hurdles, CNG offers a viable solution for urban dwellers and some transporters.

Adigun emphasizes that CNG does not impact engine performance or durability, and maintenance costs are similar across different fuel types. Although CNG may not be a long-term solution due to fossil fuel limitations, its rise in the Nigerian energy mix is expected to increase significantly in the coming years.

As Nigeria navigates its energy transition, CNG presents a valuable opportunity to reduce fuel costs and emissions, offering a pragmatic approach towards cleaner energy usage in the country.
