Africa’s underdevelopment due to erratic policies – Obasanjo

Former President Obasanjo Highlights Lack of Continuity in Achieving Food Security in Africa

Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo has spoken out about the challenges facing food security in Africa, citing a lack of continuity and policy changes as significant obstacles to the continent’s development. He emphasized the need for governments to create an environment that allows the private sector to drive the economy, rather than directly getting involved in production.

Speaking at the unveiling of Okun Rice in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Obasanjo expressed regret over the lack of continuity in developmental and food production efforts, leading to a worsening hunger crisis in Nigeria and across Africa. He urged for a more consistent approach to agricultural policies to ensure sustained food production.

Obasanjo praised the efforts of Dr. Biodun Onalaja, CEO of Hyst Global Business Limited, for investing in local rice production and contributing to food sufficiency in the country. Onalaja’s rice mill has the capacity to produce 100 metric tonnes of high-quality rice daily, offering various packing options to meet different needs.
