49 Drugs Fail Quality Tests; 1.5% Samples Fail Monthly: Govt Data

Commonly used drugs such as Metformin Hydrochloride, metronidazole tablets, diclofenac sodium, gentamicin injection, and fexofenadine hydrochloride failed quality tests in September

The rate of drug failure in India stands at 1.5% of total samples tested, with 49 out of 3,000 samples failing to meet quality standards, as per government data. The current percentage of Not of Standard Quality (NSQ) drugs is lower compared to previous years due to vigilant monitoring by the Central Drugs Standards Control Organisation (CDSCO).

Separate list of spurious drugs

The regulator identified four spurious drugs in September 2024, including Urimax D, Shelcal, Pan D, and DecaDurabolin injection. The CDSCO is investigating to determine the actual perpetrators behind these counterfeit products.
