UNDP team briefed on Punjab Assembly’s fight against fake news in Pakistan

Legislation to combat fake news is being considered in the Punjab Assembly, according to Punjab Assembly Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan. During a meeting with a delegation from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Khan emphasized the government’s efforts to prevent the spread of misinformation on social media.

He praised UNDP’s efforts in addressing fake news and suggested organizing awareness sessions to educate the public on the issue. Khan reaffirmed the government’s support in the fight against fake news and stressed the importance of access to truthful information.

Highlighting the need to educate the public on the proper use of social media and the eradication of fake news, Khan expressed the importance of incorporating this information into educational curriculums.

The UNDP delegation commended Khan’s initiative and offered assistance in organizing awareness sessions for creating a safe digital environment. They also showed support for parliamentarians tackling the issue of fake news.
