The UN Women highlights the impact of misogyny in politics on global conflicts

The UN Women Executive Director, Sima Bahous, emphasized the detrimental effects of misogyny in politics and the exclusion of women from international negotiations on prolonged conflicts. Over 600 million women and girls are affected by conflicts worldwide, with millions in Afghanistan suffering severely from ongoing violence.

Bahous stressed the need for increased women’s participation in decision-making and peace processes, as the number of women and girls affected by conflicts has risen by 50% in the past decade. The lack of women’s voices in politics not only perpetuates gender inequality but also hampers peace efforts.

With a 50% increase in conflict-related sexual violence and a 35% rise in violence against girls, urgent action is needed to protect women’s rights and ensure their meaningful participation in rebuilding efforts for sustainable peace.
