The Kurdish Conflict: PKK Claims Responsibility for Attack in Ankara
The Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) has taken responsibility for the recent attack on the Turkish defense company TUSAS in Ankara, citing Turkish actions in Kurdish regions as the motive. The autonomous “Immortal Battalion” unit of the PKK carried out the assault in response to what they perceive as Turkish provocations.
The Origins of the PKK
For years, tensions between Turks and Kurds have fueled demands for greater rights among Kurdish populations in Turkey. The PKK, originally aiming for an independent Kurdish state, later shifted its focus to autonomy and cultural rights within Turkey following years of armed conflict with the government.

With around 60,000 members, the PKK continues its struggle for Kurdish rights, mainly operating from the Kandil Mountains in Iraq.
