Northern Ireland man jailed for abusing thousands of girls online, leading one to suicide.

A notorious online predator, Alexander McCartney, was sentenced to a minimum of 20 years in prison for the manslaughter of a victim who tragically took her life. McCartney, hailing from Northern Ireland, utilized catfishing techniques to exploit over 3,500 female victims on platforms like Snapchat.

Catfishing involves the use of a fake online identity to deceive individuals, with McCartney coercing victims into sending explicit photos and engaging in sexual acts under threat of exposure. The devastating consequences of his actions were exemplified when a 12-year-old victim from West Virginia committed suicide during an online chat with McCartney.

Remarkably, this case marks the first instance of a manslaughter conviction where victim and perpetrator never physically met. McCartney’s sentencing sheds light on the harrowing effects of online predators and the importance of stringent legal measures in combatting such crimes.
