More than 20% of Lebanese displaced due to Israel-Hezbollah conflict

Lebanon is currently facing a severe humanitarian crisis, with more than a million people – over a fifth of its population – displaced due to the ongoing conflict between Hezbollah and Israel, as per official Lebanese government data. The country has suffered economic losses amounting to $20 billion, surpassing its 2023 GDP of $18 billion. Vital sectors like tourism and agriculture are at a standstill, leading to a rapid increase in unemployment rates and exacerbating the nation’s financial woes.

Inflation remains a pressing issue, and Lebanon is struggling with significant international debts. Economy Minister Amin Salam predicts that the conflict may persist until the new US president assumes office, following which he anticipates a substantial ceasefire to take place. This challenging situation underscores the urgent need for humanitarian assistance and global intervention to help stabilize Lebanon and alleviate the suffering of its people.
