Monsalve case saga keeps splashing Chilean gov’t
The resignation of Manuel Monsalve as Chile’s Interior Undersecretary has sparked a series of ongoing issues for President Gabriel Boric Font’s administration. Monsalve’s successor, Luis Cordero, recently confessed that the current government is unaware of Monsalve’s whereabouts, especially since he is facing rape charges.
Cordero emphasized the distinction between political criticism and legal responsibilities, stating that the scandal surrounding Monsalve does not directly implicate Interior Minister Carolina Tohá. Despite this, investigative measures have been taken, including examining security cameras and Monsalve’s phone.
The situation escalated with the removal of National Police Intelligence Chief, Inspector Cristina Vilches Montenegro, and the revelation of potential illegal actions involving PDI officers. Tohá has requested a comprehensive investigation by the State Defense Council to address any potential misconduct by Monsalve.
