Latvian FM praises Türkiye’s mediation in Russia-Ukraine conflict

Latvian Foreign Minister Baiba Braze has praised Türkiye’s mediation efforts in ending the Russia-Ukraine conflict as it enters its third year. In an interview, Braze commended Türkiye’s diplomatic initiatives, emphasizing Latvia’s support for Ukraine and condemning Russia’s actions as a violation of international law.

Braze highlighted Türkiye’s role in mediating the conflict, including initiatives like the Black Sea Grain Initiative and prisoner exchanges. She called for an end to Russia’s inhumane practices and emphasized the importance of upholding international law.

She also spoke highly of the long-standing alliance between Türkiye and Latvia, both NATO allies with strong diplomatic ties. Braze noted the growing tourism relationship between the two countries and expressed support for Türkiye’s EU accession.

Braze also addressed Israel’s actions in Palestine and Lebanon, advocating for adherence to international humanitarian law and emphasizing the need for a peaceful resolution in the Middle East, including support for a two-state solution.
