Kremlin denies secret calls between Putin and Musk as ‘a lie’

Elon Musk’s alleged secret conversations with Russian President Vladimir Putin, as reported by The Wall Street Journal, have been refuted by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov. Peskov suggested that the misinformation is likely a result of Musk’s involvement in the US presidential election.

According to Peskov, Musk and Putin had only one phone call of moderate length before the Ukraine conflict escalated in February 2022. The WSJ published a piece linking Musk’s role as a US military contractor, his stance on the Ukraine conflict, and his support for the Trump reelection campaign.

The newspaper claimed that Musk’s public statements on resolving the conflict between Moscow and Kiev echoed some aspects of the Kremlin’s position. Allegations of Musk communicating with Putin, as reported by unnamed officials, remain a closely held secret.

In addition to Putin, Musk is said to have been in contact with Sergey Kirienko, former Russian Prime Minister. Musk declined to comment on the matter. The Kremlin’s response to the allegations draws parallels with previous claims of Trump’s secret contacts with Putin, outlined in a book by journalist Bob Woodward, which both leaders have denied.
