Israel detains hundreds at hospital: Gaza ministry

Women and children wait for medical attention as they sit on the floor of the trauma ward of the Kamal Adwan Hospital in Beit Lahia the northern Gaza Strip on October 24, 2024.

Gaza’s Health Ministry reported that Israeli forces detained hundreds of individuals, including staff, patients, and displaced people, during a raid on Kamal Adwan Hospital, the last functioning hospital in the area.

The World Health Organization expressed concern over the situation, with the Israeli army confirming its presence in the hospital area for security reasons.

Despite some patients being transferred out, the hospital continues to face challenges, including shortages of medicines and medical supplies, further exacerbated by the ongoing conflict.

‘Mayhem and chaos’

WHO representative described scenes of chaos and trauma at the hospital, with reports of restricted aid deliveries and a dire need for essential supplies to save lives.

Hamas denounced the events as a war crime, while Israeli military operations in the region have resulted in numerous casualties and displacements.
