Iran calls on UN Security Council to denounce Israeli attacks in Beirut – Politics news

Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations, Iravani, penned a formal letter to UN Secretary-General António Guterres and the president of the Security Council, condemning Israel for the targeted killings of an Iranian citizen and a physician in Beirut. On 19 October 2024, Ms. Masoumeh Karbasi and her husband were struck by Israeli drone missile strikes, resulting in their tragic deaths. Iravani highlighted that the attack on civilians in Beirut showcased Israel’s disregard for international law and humanitarian principles.

In a separate incident on 22 October 2024, Dr. Ali Heidari, an Iranian physician and relief worker, was assassinated by Israel while providing critical medical care in Beirut. Iravani emphasized that such actions not only violate international humanitarian law but also constitute war crimes under the Geneva Conventions. He called on the Security Council to condemn Israeli crimes and take decisive action to hold the regime accountable for ongoing violations.

Iravani urged Secretary-General Guterres to document these violations in reports to the General Assembly, Security Council, and Human Rights Council, emphasizing the importance of upholding humanitarian principles and international law in the face of Israel’s continued aggression.
