Hong Kong warns 4 care homes for disabled following NGO employee’s abuse arrest

The Hong Kong government has issued warnings to four care homes for people with disabilities to ensure adherence to regulations and prevent abuse. This action comes after a staff member at one facility was arrested on suspicion of rape, raising concerns about management practices.

Secretary for Labour and Welfare Chris Sun Yuk-han emphasized the importance of proper monitoring and supervision by the Social Welfare Department. The warnings were specific to each home’s violations or deficiencies, aimed at increasing awareness and enhancing services in the sector.

While the details of the warnings were not disclosed publicly due to privacy concerns, checks on the social welfare authority’s website revealed warnings issued in September, August, and December of previous years. These warnings addressed concerns related to abuse and deficiencies in guidelines.
