The Hellenic National Defense General Staff has documented 106 incidents of Athens Flight Information Region (FIR) violations by Turkish drones and aircraft since August. Turkish UAVs and maritime patrol aircraft have breached Greek airspace without submitted flight plans, prompting Greek interceptor flights.
Despite formal requests for permission, Turkey consistently refuses to submit flight plans or respect Greek airspace boundaries. The drones conduct surveillance missions mainly in the southeastern Aegean, potentially testing new systems. Additionally, Turkish maritime patrol aircraft report operations to NATO instead of Greek authorities.
