Hugues Mulliez, at the Lille commercial court, after the judicial liquidation of the Surcouf computer store chain, of which he was CEO, on October 10, 2012.

French businessman Hugues Mulliez was convicted of “negligent homicide” and “dangerous intervention by means of a vessel” after a fatal boating accident in Greek waters in August 2019. Mulliez, known for his ventures in the telecom and retail sectors, was sentenced to six years suspended imprisonment.

Mulliez’s Greek lawyer has filed an appeal, citing procedural flaws. Pending the appeal hearing, Mulliez must report monthly to the Greek consulate. The incident involved a collision between Mulliez’s speedboat and a fishing boat, resulting in tragic consequences.

Mulliez, a member of a prominent entrepreneurial dynasty, is facing legal challenges despite his successful business background. The incident has brought scrutiny to his actions and decisions during the boating accident in 2019.
