Delhi’s Air Quality Improves Ahead of Diwali, AQI In ‘Poor’ Category After 4 Days
Delhi’s air quality saw a slight improvement on Friday with an Air Quality Index (AQI) reading of 270, putting it in the “poor” category after four consecutive days of being “very poor”. The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) recorded the 24-hour average AQI at 270, down from 306 on Thursday.
The improvement is attributed to favorable wind speeds, but experts warn that pollution levels may rise again in three days due to changing weather conditions. The prominent pollutants in Delhi were PM-10 and PM-2.5, with the transport sector being the biggest contributor to pollution.
To combat the issue, Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai showcased drone-based services to identify pollution sources in hotspot areas. The city has also implemented a 21-point Winter Action Plan targeting various pollution sources like dust, vehicle emissions, and open burning.
With Delhi’s AQI expected to touch 400 by October 31, authorities are gearing up to control the pollution surge. The city is making various efforts to reduce pollution, urging residents to actively participate in the fight against air pollution.
