In a recent meeting chaired by Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, the government reiterated its commitment to the polio eradication program, emphasizing zero tolerance towards parents who refuse to vaccinate their children. With 40 reported polio cases in the country, including 12 in Sindh, the upcoming anti-polio campaign will target 10.6 million children under the age of five starting from October 28.
During the Provincial Task Force on Polio meeting, it was announced that elected members and civil society members will be engaged in the campaign efforts. A total of 80,000 frontline workers will participate in the drive, with special focus on high-risk districts and hard-to-reach communities. The government also issued warnings to parents, stating that refusal cases will not be tolerated this time.
The chief minister’s decision to adjourn the provincial assembly session to allow members to participate in administering polio drops highlights the urgency and importance of the campaign. With support from national and international partners, the government aims to eradicate polio and protect the future of children in the province.
Despite challenges, the dedication of health workers and the commitment to vaccinate every child remain strong. The government, along with organizations like the Pakistan Medical Association, continues to push for a comprehensive investigation into the resurgence of polio cases in the country.
