The Craze for China’s National Public Service Exam: A Pursuit of Job Stability
China’s upcoming national public service exam has attracted about 3.2 million applicants, with over 10,000 vying for the hottest position amid a gloomy job market, seeking stability in civil service jobs despite challenges.
In recent years, a craze for the exam has emerged as fresh graduates aim for “iron rice bowl” jobs, despite issues in the public sector. More than 39,700 positions are available in central government agencies and affiliated institutions.
The exam, scheduled for November 30 and December 1, will determine successful candidates who will enjoy stable perks compared to the private sector. Results are expected in January, followed by interviews.
