The Accusations and Denials: Chad’s Alleged Role in Weapons Transfers to Sudan

The ongoing conflict in Sudan has taken a new turn with accusations against Chad for facilitating weapons transfers to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) by Darfur Governor Minni Minnawi. The RSF, led by Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, has been actively engaged in a bloody conflict against the Sudanese army since April 2023.

Chad, however, has vehemently denied these allegations, stating that it has no interest in escalating the war in Sudan. The Chadian government, which has taken in a significant number of Sudanese refugees, emphasized its commitment to peace and denied any support for factions involved in the Sudanese conflict.

The accusations come in the wake of a report by the Sudan Conflict Observatory linking the United Arab Emirates to weapons deliveries to the RSF through Chad. Both Chad and the UAE have refuted these claims, calling them “fanciful information”.

The conflict in Sudan has not only claimed tens of thousands of lives but has also left millions facing severe food insecurity, with famine declared in some regions. The involvement of neighboring countries in weapons transfers adds a new dimension to the complex situation in the region.
