Cabinet Shake-Up: A.T. Gwarzo and a Misleading Scorecard | The Guardian Nigeria News

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu recently carried out a cabinet reshuffle that saw the removal of five Ministers, the appointment of seven new ones, and the redeployment of 10 to other ministries. While reshuffling cabinets is a conventional method to balance leadership, address underperformance, and maintain power, it can also have consequences like loss of expertise and disruption of projects.

In the case of Abdullah Tijjani Gwarzo, his removal despite his achievements and valuable contributions has sparked controversy. Gwarzo, the former Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, played a significant role in revitalizing the sector and spearheading key initiatives. His track record of accomplishments raises questions about the justification for his dismissal.

Leaders should reconsider the value that individuals like Gwarzo bring to the table, as demonstrated by historical examples of reappointing skilled personnel for the greater good. It is not too late for Tinubu to reverse this decision and benefit from Gwarzo’s experience and dedication to service.
