October’s National Consumer Price Index-15 (IPCA-15) revealed an inflation rate of 0.54%, driven by a 0.33% decrease in transportation costs. This decline was mainly attributed to lower airfare prices and free public transport on election day.
Of the nine categories monitored, only transportation experienced a price drop, contributing -0.07 percentage points to overall inflation. Without this decline, the IPCA-15 would have risen to 0.61%. Notably, airfare prices plummeted by 11.40%, impacting the index by -0.08 percentage points.
Public transportation fares also decreased by 3.22%, with reductions seen in urban buses, trains, and metro services. Fuel prices remained relatively stable, with slight decreases in vehicular gas and diesel costs.
These fluctuations underscore how government interventions, like free transport during elections, and market dynamics influence consumer expenses and inflation rates in Brazil.
