Anambra killings do not target specific groups

The Anambra State Police Command has clarified that the recent killings at Ifite-Awka were not targeted at any specific ethnic or religious group. The incident, which left nine dead and several injured, was carried out by unidentified assailants believed to be cultists.

In response to a circulating video claiming the attacks were ethnically motivated, the command’s spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, stated that the criminals were simply trying to escape police arrest by shooting in the area.

The police remain committed to patrolling, security enhancement, and ensuring justice for the victims and their families. They vowed to apprehend those responsible for the heinous crime.

Earlier, on October 20, 2024, 13 people were killed in separate cult clashes during the Nibo Onwa Asaa festival in Anambra State. The police are actively working to prevent further violence and bring offenders to justice.

Let’s stand together against violence and support the police in their efforts to secure our communities. The safety of every individual, regardless of their background, should be a top priority.
