In a recent interview, Maronite Patriarch Beshara al-Rahi shed light on the Vatican’s role in advocating for the election of a Lebanese president, emphasizing that they are working as a moral force with foreign countries to push for this crucial decision. He expressed disappointment in the delay caused by the demand for an agreement on the president, stressing that every Maronite has the right to aspire to this position. Al-Rahi urged Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri to facilitate the election process and criticized the link between the presidential juncture and ceasefire negotiations in Lebanon and Gaza, pointing out the urgent need for a strong leader with expertise in security and economy. Additionally, he reiterated the call for Lebanon’s neutrality to avoid unnecessary conflicts that do not align with the will of the government or the people.
