ISTANBUL Türkiye’s National Defense Ministry Announces Successful Air Operation against PKK Terrorists in Northern Iraq
The National Defense Ministry of Türkiye revealed that a recent air operation conducted in the Hakurk, Gara, Qandil, and Sinjar regions of northern Iraq resulted in the destruction of 34 PKK terrorist targets and the neutralization of a significant number of terrorists. The airstrikes, carried out at 11:30 p.m. local time on Thursday, targeted terrorist positions in northern Iraq under the right of legitimate self-defense as outlined in Article 51 of the UN Charter.
The ministry stated that the operation aimed to neutralize PKK/KCK and other terrorist elements, prevent attacks on civilians and security forces, and secure Türkiye’s borders. A total of 34 targets, including caves, shelters, hideouts, depots, and facilities used by the Separatist Terrorist Organization, were destroyed during the operation. The ministry highlighted the use of domestically produced munitions in the successful mission.
The operation follows a recent terrorist attack on the headquarters of Turkish Aerospace Industries in Ankara, where two terrorists were neutralized. The Turkish Armed Forces remain resolute in the fight against terrorism, ensuring the survival and security of the country and its people.
The PKK, listed as a terrorist organization by Türkiye, the US, and the EU, has been responsible for over 40,000 deaths in its nearly 40-year terror campaign against Türkiye.
