North Korea has deployed special forces for a mission in Russia, and the South Korean government is now preparing to brief NATO and the EU on this matter. A government delegation, composed of officials from the National Intelligence Service, Ministry of National Defense, and Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will provide updates on North Korea’s troop movements at NATO headquarters in Belgium on October 28th.

President Yoon Suk-yeol recently discussed the situation with NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg, who requested a South Korean delegation to be sent to NATO. The delegation will include Hong Jang-won, head of the National Intelligence Service, Park Jin-young, head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff’s intelligence unit, and Yoo Jung-hyun, the South Korean ambassador to Belgium.

In addition to sharing information with the US and Japan, the South Korean government is also aiming to strengthen cooperation through discussions with the US at the 56th US-ROK Security Consultative Meeting in Washington on October 30th. This meeting will assess the recent security situation on the Korean Peninsula and discuss joint policies towards North Korea.
