President Joe Biden has instructed the US national security agencies to utilize Artificial Intelligence (AI), outlining a plan to manage the technology’s risks. A White House memo issued recently called on federal agencies to prioritize chip supply chains with AI in mind.

National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan emphasized the importance of harnessing AI’s power while managing the associated risks to advance national security goals. He highlighted that competitors are constantly striving to exceed US military capabilities, necessitating swift AI deployment.
Balancing gains with risks
The memo also underscored the importance of monitoring and mitigating AI-related risks such as privacy invasion and bias. It emphasized collaborating with allies to ensure AI adheres to international law and protects human rights.
Despite concerns, Sullivan ensured that US AI initiatives prioritize privacy, human rights, and national security, asserting that competitors lack similar ethical constraints.
