US Officials Reaffirm ATACMS Missile Strikes No Value in Russia

In a recent Fox News interview, US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin discussed the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, particularly the issue of Kyiv’s request to use US-made ATACMS missiles to strike deep into Russia. Austin emphasized that the Russians have already moved their aircraft out of ATACMS range, and Ukraine has its own highly effective drones for offensive capabilities.

The ATACMS missile is a potent weapon that can be fired from artillery systems provided to Ukraine by the US and European states. It has impressive speed and precision, making it a valuable asset in targeting soft military targets such as aircraft and logistic vehicles.

While there is debate within the US government about permitting Ukraine to use ATACMS missiles deep into Russia, the country has been utilizing its own drones effectively in striking Russian airfields and infrastructure. These drone attacks have forced Russian aerospace forces to withdraw their aircraft deeper into Russia, out of range of Ukrainian defenses.

Ultimately, the use of drones versus ATACMS missiles reflects Ukraine’s strategic approach to degrading Russia’s military capacity and deterring further aggression. US President Joe Biden has emphasized the need to consider the broader implications of providing long-range weapons to Ukraine in the ongoing conflict.
