US and Cyprus launched a strategic dialogue to enhance security and stability in the region through measures such as counterterrorism training and combating sanctions evasion. The initiative marks a significant moment in the relationship between the two countries.

The dialogue reflects Cyprus’ shift towards strengthening ties with the US, particularly following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022. Key focus areas include maritime cybersecurity, counterterrorism, and law enforcement cooperation to combat illegal financing and sanctions evasion.

The establishment of a Defense Cooperation Framework Agreement and the Cyprus-Gaza maritime corridor demonstrate the commitment of both nations to humanitarian efforts and addressing regional security concerns. The partnership aims to ensure the safety of citizens amid regional instability.
