UN Mission in South Sudan Calls on Government to Uphold Rule of Law

The UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) emphasized the importance of upholding the rule of law during the United Nations Day 2024 celebrations. UNMISS Force Commander Lt Gen Mohan Subramanian reaffirmed the mission’s commitment to strengthening the rule of law in collaboration with the government and people of South Sudan, particularly in hard-to-reach areas.

Furthermore, Subramanian highlighted the efforts of human rights teams to monitor and prevent rights violations, aiming to promote accountability within the country. The Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University of Juba, Prof Justus Wani Jada, also emphasized the significance of embracing diversity and forging a common national identity to foster peace.

United Nations Day, celebrated annually on October 24, commemorates the official creation of the UN in October 1945. This year’s theme, ‘Building a Better Future Together’, was marked with art exhibitions, cultural performances, and a tree planting ceremony to support environmental sustainability.
