UNICEF: 71% of Borno Kids Unvaccinated for Polio

UNICEF reports that 71.5% of children in Borno State are not fully vaccinated against polio. During the World Polio Day 2024 activities in Maiduguri, Dr Gerida Birukila revealed that only 28.5% of children in the state have received basic antigens.

The #No More Zero-Dose song was launched to raise awareness and promote compulsory vaccination. The song features Ali Nuhu, Kate Henshaw, Timi Dakolo, and others, emphasizing the importance of protecting children against preventable diseases.

Zero-dose areas in Borno include MMC, Mafa, Konduga, and others. UNICEF continues to advocate for increased funding for health and immunization, as well as providing support for targeted interventions across the state.

Community engagement and ensuring vaccine availability are key priorities. The goal is to increase vaccination rates and eliminate stockouts at the local government level, ensuring all children are protected.
