Rescue of Abducted Girls in Akobo County: A Tale of Bravery and Peace

In a daring rescue operation, two girls who were abducted by armed Murle youth from the Greater Pibor Administrative Area have been rescued by the authorities in Jonglei State’s Akobo County. The girls, who were traveling between Walgak and Langkien, were abducted by the armed group on Saturday.

Akobo County Commissioner Puok Nyang Tutjiek commended the local youth for their courageous efforts in rescuing the girls, despite the tragic death of one of them during the confrontation with the abductors. Puok urged for an end to the cross-border attacks and highlighted the need for peaceful coexistence.

Meanwhile, GPAA Information Minister Oleyo Akwer Nyalus condemned the attack and emphasized their commitment to working towards peace with their neighbors. He denounced the perpetrators of such crimes as “criminals and outcasts” who do not represent the government’s stance on peace.

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of unity and cooperation in the pursuit of peace and security in the region, and the need to stand against those who seek to disrupt the harmony of communities.
