Turkey launched a second day of airstrikes on suspected Kurdish militant targets in Syria and Iraq following an attack on a defense company that killed at least five people. The National Intelligence Organization targeted strategic locations used by the PKK and Syrian Kurdish militia, destroying military, intelligence, energy, and infrastructure facilities. Armed drones were used in the strikes.
The airstrikes came after an attack on the premises of TUSAS, a key defense company, carried out by a man and a woman who killed four people. The attackers were also killed in the incident. The Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces reported civilian casualties from Turkish strikes in northern Syria.
TUSAS, known for designing and manufacturing aircraft, unmanned aerial vehicles, and defense systems, plays a crucial role in Turkey’s fight against Kurdish militants. The attack on TUSAS occurred amidst discussions about the possible parole of PKK leader Abdullah Ocalan if he renounces violence and disbands the organization.
