Communications and digital technologies minister Solly Malatsi expressed concern over government departments failing to pay TV license fees totaling R35m last year. What’s surprising is that these departments collectively possess a staggering 2,500 television sets.
In a recent revelation, it was discovered that despite owning a substantial number of TV sets, government departments have neglected to uphold their financial responsibility by not paying their TV license fees. This unexpected discrepancy has raised questions about what officials with these TV sets watch and when they actually find time to use them amidst their professional duties.
The role of communication technology within government agencies is crucial, but it is equally important for them to comply with legal obligations such as paying TV license fees.
