Russian Military Frees 85 Indians, New Delhi Reports Some Still Captive

Russia’s Defense Ministry discharged 85 misled Indian citizens from the army, with efforts ongoing to secure the release of remaining 20 individuals. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to address the issue with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the BRICS summit in Kazan. Modi previously facilitated the release of 45 Indian nationals from the Russian military in July.

Around 100 Indians fell victim to human traffickers who deceived them with job offers or university admissions in Russia. New Delhi initiated repatriation following the deaths of nine men in Russia’s conflict with Ukraine. Despite the return of mortal remains, efforts are underway to bring back more individuals. Moscow is believed to have enlisted foreign combatants for the Ukraine war, including individuals from Nepal.
