Western Bahr el-Ghazal State Electoral Commission Prepares for 2026 General Election
The Western Bahr el-Ghazal State Electoral Commission Chairperson, Arkangelo Udo Agany, announced the commencement of the first phase of preparations for the 2026 General Election. Despite facing challenges, the commission has started with the renovation of its office.
South Sudan’s transitional government recently delayed the elections until December 2026 due to a lack of readiness, marking the second postponement since gaining independence in 2011. Agany highlighted the renovation as a major hurdle for the commission.
Agany stated that his role is to address all challenges to ensure a smooth election process. He emphasized the importance of securing a budget for voter education, constituency border determination, and acquiring necessary office equipment and vehicles.
Despite the setbacks caused by the postponement, the commission is working diligently to meet the expectations of the people. As the election period approaches, additional appointments will be made to the commission.
