Position in 2024 Election

With the specter of former President Trump looming large over the 2024 election, the landscape of Republican politics is shifting. Ten House Republicans broke ranks to impeach Trump after the Capitol riot in January 2021, but now, as Trump eyes a comeback, where do they stand?

Former Reps. Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger have openly endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris, while others like Fred Upton have deemed Trump unfit for office. Some, like Anthony Gonzalez and Jaime Herrera Beutler, remain neutral in the race. The only two House Republicans who backed impeachment and are still in office, Reps. Dan Newhouse and David Valadao, have taken different paths — with Newhouse pledging support for Trump and Valadao staying mum.

In the Senate, former GOP colleagues like Richard Burr and Pat Toomey have divergent views on Trump’s candidacy, while Lisa Murkowski, Mitt Romney, and Susan Collins have made it clear they won’t be backing the former president. As the 2024 election looms, the battle lines are drawn, with both Harris and Trump locked in a tight race.
