Pentagon chief expresses worry about Israel strikes on Lebanese army

In recent incidents of conflict, U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin has expressed grave concern over strikes on the Lebanese army to Israeli counterpart Yoav Gallant following the tragic death of three soldiers. The Lebanese army reported an Israeli strike targeting their vehicle in the south, amid ongoing tensions with Iran-backed Hezbollah. This latest attack has brought the death toll of Lebanese troops to eight since the escalation of hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah.

During a conversation with Gallant, Austin stressed the importance of ensuring the safety and security of Lebanese Armed Forces and UNIFIL peacekeeping forces, condemning the recent attacks. Additionally, Austin extended his condolences for the loss of an Israeli brigade commander in Gaza, where Israeli forces have been conducting operations against Hamas.

The escalating violence in the region is a cause for international concern, with UNIFIL accusing Israel of multiple attacks on its members. The situation remains tense as both sides navigate through these tumultuous times.
