NATO committed to engaging with BRICS – president

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey recently attended the BRICS summit in Russia, despite Turkey not being a member of the group yet. Erdogan expressed Turkey’s determination to strengthen its cooperation with BRICS, emphasizing the group’s unique contribution to establishing a fair global order.

During the summit, Erdogan highlighted Turkey’s commitment to dialogue with BRICS and its close ties with member states based on mutual respect and cooperation. He underlined the importance of multilateral platforms in addressing global challenges in today’s rapidly changing world.

Erdogan also emphasized the potential of deepening cooperation within BRICS to promote equitable global development and security. Despite Turkey’s aspirations to join BRICS, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte acknowledged Turkey’s right to pursue this goal while reaffirming Turkey’s significance as a NATO ally.

Overall, Turkey’s exploration of economic opportunities in other platforms like BRICS reflects its intention to diversify its partnerships beyond the stalled EU accession process.
