Morocco stresses connection between terrorism, separatism

During a recent meeting of the African Union’s Peace and Security Council in Addis Ababa, Morocco highlighted the dangerous link between terrorist and separatist groups in Africa. Ambassador Mohamed Arrouchi emphasized the devastating effects of terrorist activities on the continent, including population displacement and loss of life. He also noted the economic impact of terrorism, with Africa suffering a loss of $171 billion over the last decade.

Arrouchi highlighted the collaboration between various nefarious groups, including terrorists, separatists, and insurgents involved in transnational crime, posing a significant threat to peace and stability in Africa. He stressed the importance of combating terrorism and the sources of its financing to protect civilian populations and promote stability.

Morocco has been actively working towards peace and security in Africa, hosting conferences and promoting a multidimensional approach to address the root causes of radicalization and terrorism. The adoption of the Tangier Declaration by the AU PSC is a step towards effective implementation of strategies to combat extremism and promote development and stability on the continent.
