Micro-Level Weather Forecasting At Panchayat Level: Modi Govt’s Initiative To Boost Agriculture, Disaster Preparedness
In a game-changing initiative, the Modi government is rolling out micro-level weather forecasting stations at the panchayat level to empower farmers with real-time, localised data. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) and the Panchayati Raj Ministry are collaborating to revolutionise rural agriculture with precise weather insights. The initiative aims to provide critical, real-time data directly to farmers.
The equipment for weather predictions will be installed across 200,000 panchayats in phases. Updates will be available on the e-‘Gramswaraj’ app, with new apps in development. Hyper-local weather stations will deliver detailed forecasts on rainfall, temperature, and wind patterns, essential for optimizing crop cycles and pest control.
This initiative is set to transform India’s rural landscape and strengthen disaster preparedness. By providing real-time data through mobile apps, it aims to reduce crop damage, improve yields, and enhance income stability for farmers. This system will offer better insights into local weather conditions, enabling better planning and minimizing weather-related losses.
