Israel, Hamas open to talks on Gaza war

Israel and Hamas Move Closer to Ceasefire as Talks Gain Momentum

Israel announced on Thursday that its spy chief would attend Gaza ceasefire talks, with Hamas vowing to stop fighting if a truce is reached, signaling progress in long-stalled efforts to end the war.

The talks come after the killing of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, viewed as a possible opening for a deal. Hamas expressed willingness to cease fire if Israel commits to a ceasefire, allows the return of displaced people, agrees to a prisoner exchange, and permits humanitarian aid into Gaza.

Efforts to resume ceasefire negotiations are ongoing, with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu welcoming Egypt’s readiness to facilitate a deal. The United States and Qatar also announced plans to restart Gaza ceasefire talks in Doha.

The war in Gaza has resulted in over 770 deaths in just 19 days, with ongoing military operations by Israel targeting Hamas militants. Meanwhile, the conflict has spilled over to Lebanon, where Israel has been engaging with Hezbollah forces.

As the humanitarian crisis worsens, international efforts are focused on reaching a ceasefire agreement to prevent further loss of life and address the urgent humanitarian needs in both Gaza and Lebanon.
