In response to regulatory changes set for 2025, Greece is transitioning from mandatory green electricity tariffs to fixed-rate plans to adapt to evolving energy policies. Starting January 1, 2025, new customers will no longer be required to opt for green tariffs, although existing customers can maintain them if they choose to renew. This move aims to simplify price comparisons for consumers while ensuring approximately 4 to 4.5 million individuals have access to green energy options.
Additionally, the government is enforcing a minimum 12-month duration for fixed-rate contracts to mitigate seasonal price fluctuations and provide better consumer protection. Energy Minister Thodoros Skylakakis expressed concerns about short-term contracts and advocated for longer, more stable options. As part of this transition, six-month fixed-rate contracts will be banned in 2025 to align with EU directives.
Current fixed-rate offers are available for as low as €0.10 per kilowatt-hour, encouraging consumers to use green tariffs as a benchmark when comparing prices. Protergia has committed to maintaining stable pricing at €0.159 per kilowatt-hour, reflecting the industry’s dedication to consumer and market stability.
