Government offers financial assistance to caregivers of persons with disabilities.

Recently, the Lagos State Government demonstrated its commitment to supporting persons with disabilities by providing financial aid to special homes and disability cluster groups in the state. The Office for Disability Affairs distributed N500,000 each to nine homes and six cluster groups, following an earlier initiative where financial support of N100,000 was given to 100 individuals with disabilities.

Speaking at the event, the General Manager of LASODA, Adenike Oyetunde-Lawal, emphasized the importance of empowering caregivers to meet the needs of children and individuals with disabilities. The government aims to improve the quality of life for persons with disabilities by equipping caregivers with necessary resources and services.

Furthermore, LASODA has additional interventions in progress, such as interactive quizzes, Ability Games, swimming lessons, and neurological check-ups for deaf individuals. The agency is dedicated to providing physical and mental support to enhance the well-being of those with disabilities in the state.

Beneficiaries, including Gilead initiatives for PWDs and Resource Centre for the Blind, praised the government’s efforts and called for more assistance, particularly in medical support. The National Commission for Persons With Disabilities is also collaborating with the Bank of Industry to offer low-interest credit facilities, aiming to improve livelihoods for individuals with disabilities.
