Gerard ‘The Monk’ Hutch arrested in Spain

The Monk Arrested in Spain for Money Laundering Investigation

Gerard Hutch, famously known as ‘The Monk’, has been taken into custody in Lanzarote, Spain, alongside some of his relatives in connection with an extensive money laundering probe. The Guardia Civil is currently interrogating Hutch regarding his involvement in the investigation.

Identified as the head of the notorious Hutch family by the Special Criminal Court, Gardaí raided his residence in Clontarf, Dublin, while authorities in Spain conducted ten searches as part of the ongoing operation.

This investigation, targeting money laundering activities orchestrated by the Hutch organised crime syndicate across multiple nations, has been in progress for over two years. The collaboration between the Garda National Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the Guardia Civil has been instrumental in tracking down this Transnational Organised Crime Group operating between Ireland and Spain.

Although the Guardia Civil has refrained from disclosing further details due to a “secrecy order” in Spain, this recent crackdown highlights the continuous effort to combat international criminal enterprises.
