Gauteng top cop reports anti-gang unit victories in crime hotspots

In the last six months, Gauteng police have made 1,587 arrests related to gangsterism, with Lt-Gen Tommy Mthombeni highlighting the challenges faced in areas like Eldorado Park and Westbury. Among the arrests were 65 for murders, 87 for attempted murders, 214 for firearms possession, and 1,221 for drug offenses.

Mthombeni also updated on the anti-gang unit’s progress, revealing the recovery of 235 firearms, 2,638 rounds of ammunition, and 60kg of drugs. He emphasized the ongoing issue of drug proliferation in the province and the need for specialized units to tackle crime in the most affected areas.
